Peugeot 607

This car has everything except a high class badge. The 3.0 V6 feels like an ordinary saloon if driven in economy mode, but switch to sport and it'll growl, throw you back in your seat and take flight (not a good idea coming away from the lights with another car right in front of you). It has a smooth Porsche Tiptronic gearbox, so you can drive in full automatic, or change gears yourself (sans clutch) if you prefer. The only probably with the manual gear mode is that if the car doesn't think the revs are right, it won't change until it's ready... defies the point a bit.

Peugeot 607

It has something called ESP, which alters the suspension and handling automatically according to your driving style - ie. if you floor it and hang it round bends, the suspension will harden up to keep you glued to the road.

Headlights and wipers are automatic, the only problem with this is when the lights come on and someone coming the other way thinks you flashed them to let them go (has happenned a few times to me), and also trying to get the ligts to turn off when you're parked with the engine running - it can be done, but the controls are confusing.

The stereo system sounds fantastic and the car has been designed with the acoustics in mind: shame the CD autochanger only holds 6 though. The integrated phone is excellent and can be controlled from either the centre console or the steering column - I would recommend a 2nd sim card though, because taking the one out of your usual phone for every trip is a nuisance and the sim slot tends to malfunction - get a sim card in, and leave it in! There is also a handset in the arm rest for private calls.

For comfort, I don't think this car can be beaten. It is spacious and it has luxurious leather seats with heating (front and rear), the front ones are fully adjustable and even the head restraints are controlled electrically. The front central armrest can even be lowered/raised to your preference.

It has loads of gadgets, including air con, headlamp washers, phone, electric heated seats, electric sunroof & windows, electric rear sun blind, colour sat nav, DVD connections, air con glove box and many more.

We've had the car just over a year and it's only let us down once. It needed a new radiator, which the main dealer dealt with under warranty very quickly. Tyres are expensive; we got a set for just shy of £600 after much searching, but the majority of garages quoted in the region of £160 each! If you're thinking of getting one of these cars, make sure the tyres are good or you're in for a nasty shock.

It's quite heavy on the petrol, but then, it's a 3litre, and it doesn't do too badly compared with the 2.9 Scorpio we had before it.

Servicing is fairly expensive, but it's only needed every 2 years or 40000 miles, so it's not that bad.

There's not a lot you can do under the bonnet as everything is hidden away under plastic covers - even the battery is hard to get at, so if you want to tinker, this is not the car for you.

Customer service is excellent (well, it is where we live, can't comment on other regions).
